The Terrier of Australia is one of the smallest working terriers. It was bred to be a helper and companion in difficult times and the field but is adaptable to most climates. Interestingly, the Terrier of Australia has a special love for children, the elderly and the disabled.
The Australian Terrier is a close relative of former Scottish dog in Britain, however, the current Scottish Terrier. These dogs are believed to have crossed a number of other breeds British actions terrier to produce fast, robust, rough, weatherproof, fearless little dog that the settlers were established as necessary the borders of their country.
They helped to control rodents and snakes on the docks, farms, sheep and cattle stations in the interior. Sometimes taking care of sheep and sounded an alarm when the intruders appeared. Besides all these jobs, the Terrier of Australia also served as a partner.
All races were chosen for cross promote specific desired traits. There is a consensus of opinion that the breeds used included the precursors of the Dandie Dinmont, Skye, Yorkshire, and the old Black-and-Tan Terriers (now Manchester), probably with the Irish and Cairn Terriers. The offspring of the cross several created a very beautiful dog that the settlers were proud to display at home or in public.

Description Appearance:
Small
Sturdy
Medium boned terrier working
Rather long in proportion to the height of erect ears and tail docked
Height 10 to 11 inches at the withers
The head is large and strong
Keen and intelligent looking eyes, small dark brown to black set apart, tires are black, oval shape
The ears are small, erect and pointed at the top of the head, but well separated
The nose is black
The lips are tight and dark brown or black with border
The outer layer is hard and straight, 2.5 inches around the body except the tail, hind legs, the hocks down and feet, as it remains free of long hair
The hair on the ears is kept very short
Short, soft undercoat
Furniture softer than the body warm
The neck is well furred, which forms a protective ruff blending into the platform
Covering only the top of the skull is finer and smoother texture than the rest of the layer
The colors are blue and tan, solid sandy and solid red
Tuft is silver or a more clear that the color of the head
