What is this extra wire that was connected to my water heater?
I replaced my electric water heater recently and had an extra, solid copper wire that is attached to the top of the water heater in the cold water pipe enters the water heater. This cable is on the wall where the metal Lined power line supplying power to the water heater. My water line is the search, so do not think it was an attempt to land, but I'm sure. For now I have this extra wire out of the wall, attached to nothing.
It is a ground wire. The plumber who installed the water heater was probably following the instructions on installing. Try to spot than anything else.
