Can anyone help me with the use of home oxygen tank?
My father is my concern. Normally set at 2, but lately has led at 6. When it comes back down, you feel shortness of breath and has to return to the crank. Is this bad for him to increase their consumption of both? Should I worry? If it helps, has emphasema (sp?) And the needs of the 24 hours of oxygen to breathe (and can you believe it still smoking? It kills me). I do not know if the oxygen consumption is like a recipe and that is an overdose or something …. Can someone Please help me this?!
I am on oxygen 24 / 7 also because I pulmonary fibrosis / pulmoanry hypertension with congestive heart failure. My adjustment at 3 and if I turn it up that makes me physically sick. I could not get my oxygen the health care provider until my doctor gave me a prescription for me. The company I deal with have respiratory therapists that make the house a little regular routine calls to check the computer and how I'm doing. You may want to call the company of his father's oxygen and see if they can go out and talk to him. You definitely need see your doctor if you are doing this. Emphysema appears that there may be worse – especially since he's still smoking. Ask if you have a death wish? If he says no, telll you owe if you can not quit. I know smoking is one of the most difficult addiction to stop, but when you can see his life in the Line One would think that would be a sufficient incentive. The doctor may increase your oxygen level, especially if the rate of saturation is low. Are you in the boats or liquid oxygen? It might be better in the liquid if not already in it. I made the change and my breathing helped tremendously – and it's much more easy to use. You're a good daughter to worry about their father and try to help, but remember you have to help yourself. With the new privacy law may not be able to speak with the doctor of his father, but you can pass a message to the nurse to give the doctor say that you'r worried about his breathing. The doctor may schedule an appointment and you can go with him at that moment and tell the doctor what is happening. Good luck to you both.
