When you start with greyhound handicapping, it's all very confusing. The program could also be printed in another language and you think you'll never find a way to tell if a dog is a competitor. But before you think you're reading the program as a professional and detection dogs have a good chance of winning.
Reason then begin to realize that there is a pattern collection for dogs. There are certain things you learn to look for that indicate when a dog is in shape. You start to take note of these "factors". Soon you are thinking that one of them is more important than others and begin to initiate their disability with the only factor.
Then you realize that this is not the most important factor, after all, when the dogs come in without that factor in its form, so that another factor in the top of your list. That is, until something else catches your eye and you realize that I have been wrong. It was not the factor A or B, Factor, Factor C is what determines whether a greyhound is a contender.
And so on. The novice handicapper hovers factor factor, not knowing if this is more important one at a time. Because it tracks the results of disability, never knowing if what you are doing works or not.
Worse still is the belief that one factor is more important than all others. And if only I could find that factor, which may decide the winners in almost every race. Well, our friend handicapper has a point. In some races, speed is the factor that is at the top of the list of winners of the positive disability. In other races, is of class or position or run advantage published room.
The truth is that no one factor that determines the outcome of a one race. No matter how smart is a dog, you still have to watch the other dogs. No matter how much of an advantage because a dog has the posterior position track bias, or simply because the number that comes in tonight, you still have to handicap all the factors in each race.
That's why we have to keep records that indicate where you have been, so you know where you are going and when you are with your disability.
